Venice Beach: The Kinney Hotel
Venice Beach is a fun beachside town with great coffee, restaurants, and some of the coolest things to do in the Los Angeles area.
While we were there, we stayed at the Kinney Hotel, which I highly recommend. Here’s why.
The Kinney Hotel
In case you’ve missed it, I have a thing for funky places to stay away from home. Some recent hotel stays include The Lorenzo Hotel in Dallas and a quirky little Airbnb in Joshua Tree. Like these two, The Kinney Hotel has a midcentury modern, clean style, classic California!
Common Areas
The outside of the building is equally as bright, so it’s hard to miss. There is a parking area attached to the hotel. The cost is $25/night; you can come and go as much as you like. Honestly, though, it’s so close to the beach and Venice boardwalk that we just walked everywhere. Hey, got to get our steps in!
Don’t feel like walking? That’s okay. You can rent bikes as well.
When you walk in, the giant Wanderlust illuminates your way. I think Vaeh especially appreciated this, as she commented on its cool factor upon seeing it. I told her she was really in for a treat then.
The floors and the walls leading to your room are all colorful and give a happy vibe. Since it is California, there is plenty of outdoor space, including a small pool and a hot tub that, from what I could tell, never shuts off (winning!). The mural of the man jumping in makes me smile.
Coming from the elevators and going right instead of left, you’ll see a seating area with a firepit and ping-pong table. There is also a place nearby to lay in hammocks, perfect for enjoying the beautiful, year-round weather.
The Room
When you first walked into our room, a sink area to the left led into the bathroom. There was also a big mirror in the closet, allowing us to take pictures before going to Disney. Bright blue tile lined the front of the shower area, and there was a cute little blue cubby for the towels.
Before you got into the bedroom, there was a little area for the mini-fridge and a coffee station above it.
Sticking with their theme, the room was bright and cheery, with multi-colored splat art and lines on the wall behind the bed. Along the bed were these buttons that, if you didn’t know they were there, you would miss them. These buttons light up the area behind your bed.
The beds were comfortable and had these cute little pillows that looked like a crossword puzzle with The Kinney circled. Across from them was the TV and a seating area that was used frequently.
Thankfully, we had a room that faced the street and didn’t have any noise issues. The only minor issue we had was the tub stopping up the first day, but maintenance came in while we were out and fixed it. They were so responsive that we were all impressed.
Wrapping It Up
So far, I’ve told you about our hotel and the best coffee shops around. Coming soon are a few great foodie finds and what walking the boardwalk looks like when health and body image is such a key thing.
