Honey Latte Recipe

I started working on my mad latte skills back in November 2019. I constantly used a pump or two of coffee syrup in my drink, bringing in extra sugar and calories. Not cool.

At one point, about two years later, I started adding date syrup. Much to my surprise, I liked it. From there, I have switched over to honey lattes.

Part of the appeal of honey lattes is that in Texas (more specifically, the Texas Triangle), you can get flavored honey from Round Rock honey. I use their picante, bourbon barrel-aged, and orange cinnamon honey as flavors in my drinks. I feel much better about drinking this than I do making a sugar-induced morning routine.

Equipment Needed for the Honey Latte

For the coffee/espresso, I recommend two items.

  • On the pricier side is an espresso machine. I personally prefer the Breville Barista Express. I waited years to buy one, and when I did, I instantly knew it was something I should have invested in sooner.
  • On the cheaper end, there is the moka pot. It will give you a flavor somewhere between drip coffee and espresso. If you choose this route, I recommend spending $10-$40 on a milk frother. This will help you achieve the proper foam for your milk.

This warm beverage will keep you feeling toasty for hours. Added bonus if you can get flavored coffee.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 tsp. honey
  • 18 oz. Coffee grounds for espresso or 1/2 cup strong brewed coffee
  • 8 oz. milk of choice

Instructions

  1. Pour honey into the coffee cup.
  2. Brew espresso or coffee, depending on your method.
  3. Pour hot coffee into a cup and stir well.
  4. Add milk to pitcher; steam if using an espresso machine. Warm in the microwave or on the stove. 140* is the ideal temperature for milk (If using a steam wand, typically when the pitcher is too hot to hold, it means it’s time to take it off).
  5. If warming in the microwave or stove, froth the milk once warmed.
  6. Add milk to the honey-coffee mixture, and enjoy!
